This cat was born in the Saint- Petersburg region in Russia. The Siberian cat is certainly at the origins the crossing between our wild cat (felis silvestris) and the Russian domestics cats. The first Siberian cats were some household cats and some people who likes this cat decided to do a standard of him. So a breeding program was done.
This cat belongs to the semi long haired cats family as the Norwegian forest cat, the Maine coon, The Turkish van which are natural breeds. This forest cat has been domesticated for 200 years.
The first official Siberian cat pedigree was published by the Kotefei in Russia in 1987.
The first Siberian cats came to U.S.A in 1990 (imported by the Starpoint...s cattery) and in Europe at the same moment by the Newjskij...s cattery in Germany.

According to the temper and the appearance, the Siberian cat is similar to the Norwegian forest cat and the Maine coon. However, this breed is less well-known and not to shed as this breed would deserve it.

The Siberian male cats weight between 6 to 10kg (11 to 19 pounds) and the female which are smaller weight between 3,5 kg and 7 kg (7 to 13 pounds).
All colours and pattern are accepted except lilac, chocolate, cinnamon and fawn. The Colorpoint Siberian cat are called Siberian Neva Masquerade cat in Europe.
